Electrify Africa’s Clinics and Hospitals – delivers off-grid solar energy systems and solar water kiosks to improve healthcare access across Sub-Saharan Africa. We’re building solar-powered health facilities where the grid can’t reach.
The Electrify Africa’s Clinics and Hospitals (EACH) initiative began as part of the Health Electrification and Telecommunications Alliance (HETA), with early support from USAID. This partnership helped bring reliable, off-grid solar power to underserved clinics, improving access to life-saving services like vaccine refrigeration, telemedicine, and emergency care.
In February 2025, USAID funding ended, but EACH continues to build on this foundation through private investment and sustainable partnerships, driving forward its mission to deliver clean energy and safe water to healthcare facilities across Sub-Saharan Africa.
In rural Africa, over 100,000 health clinics lack reliable electricity. Without power, basic healthcare services like vaccine storage, emergency treatment, and digital patient records collapse.
EACH (Electrify Africa’s Clinics and Hospitals) provides clean energy solutions for clinics across 14+ African nations using solar panels, solar batteries, and off-grid energy systems.
This initiative builds on the legacy of the HETA project and ensures energy access for clinics with a sustainable, scalable model for long-term healthcare transformation.

With each step, solar-powered health systems are GPS-monitored, supported by local training, and designed for long-term sustainability. From DRC to Côte d'Ivoire, EACH is lighting the way for a healthier Africa.
We ditch the diesel. Our model is built on solar + storage systems for clinics, with maintenance built into every install.
Our special purpose vehicle (SPV) model enables capital pooling, local engagement, and measurable growth across 14+ countries.
Not just power, progress. We enable everything from emergency surgery to telemedicine through sustainable solar solutions.
EACH isn’t just bringing power, we’re bringing progress. By electrifying clinics with off-grid solar systems and delivering solar-powered water kiosks, we’re aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our work directly advances nine SDGs, proving that renewable energy in healthcare can heal both people and the planet.
Clinic Electrification with Off-Grid Solar Systems: Lausanne Solar Systems keep rural health facilities powered 24/7 for vaccine refrigeration, surgical theatres, and telemedicine. This ensures universal healthcare access in Africa where the grid cannot reach.
Access to reliable electricity and clean water enables schools to operate safely and support digital learning. TellCo Europe empowers students, especially in rural areas, with the ability to study after dark, access e-learning platforms, and benefit from connected classrooms, closing the education gap.
Through solar-powered water kiosks and electrified clinics, EACH frees women and girls from hours of water collection and fuel gathering. With time reclaimed, they can pursue education, employment, and leadership opportunities, advancing true gender equality and female empowerment in underserved communities.
Solar-Powered Water Kiosks for Safe Drinking Water: 400 kiosks deliver clean, zero-chemical water to 10,000 people per kiosk daily, cutting waterborne diseases like typhoid and E. coli. Clean energy meets clean water, building sustainable health infrastructure.
Renewable Energy for Clinics: Hybrid solar + storage systems reduce diesel generator dependence, expanding the share of renewable energy in Africa while improving healthcare delivery through solar power.
Green Jobs Through Local Capacity Building: EACH trains and certifies African technicians for installation and O&M, creating skilled jobs, boosting local economies, and ensuring sustainable solar solutions for the future.
Innovative Financing for Healthcare Electrification: Through a Luxembourg-based SPV model and blended finance, EACH develops scalable, climate-resilient solar healthcare infrastructure across 14+ countries.
Energy Access for Clinics in Rural Africa: By powering underserved and remote communities with solar clinics and water kiosks, EACH reduces disparities in healthcare and supports equitable access for marginalized populations.
Resilient Community Infrastructure: EACH integrates sustainable solar infrastructure that continues operating even during grid failure, ensuring that both clinics and surrounding communities stay resilient.
TellCo Europe promotes sustainable energy use by replacing diesel with renewable solar power. Water kiosks use zero-chemical purification, ensuring responsible production. Communities adopt cleaner, more sustainable consumption patterns that reduce environmental harm.
Carbon Reduction Through Renewable Energy: EACH’s clean energy systems replace diesel, avoiding more than 250,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, directly supporting climate action while strengthening healthcare systems.
Blended Finance for Solar Healthcare: With $141M mobilized from impact investors, DFIs, philanthropies, and governments, EACH proves that partnerships for renewable energy in Africa can scale healthcare electrification sustainably.
At EACH, every solar panel installed and every drop of clean water delivered is a step toward a healthier, fairer, and more sustainable Africa, one SDG at a time.
